Celebrating South East Asian Heritage Month by Promoting Inclusive Research

September 23, 2026

Our Clinical Research Facility (CRF) was delighted to take part in this year’s South Asian Heritage Month event, organised by our Trust’s REACH Network. The event provided a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of our workforce while highlighting the vital role that research and clinical trials play in improving healthcare for everyone.

Throughout the event, our team spoke with colleagues about the many ways they can get involved in research, whether by taking part in clinical trials, joining patient and public involvement activities, or helping to raise awareness within their families, friends and local communities.

We were encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by staff, many of whom were keen to become ambassadors for research by helping us spread the word about the importance of inclusive participation. Conversations throughout the day demonstrated a genuine interest in learning more about clinical research and how it benefits patients now and in the future.

The event also generated several expressions of interest from colleagues wanting to take part in research. We were particularly pleased that members of staff registered an interest in the Improving Black Health Outcomes (IBHO) Bioresource study, supporting our ongoing efforts to ensure research reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.

Building trust and improving representation in research is essential. When people from all backgrounds take part, researchers can develop evidence, treatments and healthcare innovations that are more effective and equitable for everyone.

We would like to thank the REACH Network for inviting the CRF to be part of this wonderful celebration. Events such as South Asian Heritage Month provide valuable opportunities to engage with colleagues, encourage conversations about research and inspire more people to become part of the next generation of medical discoveries.

Together, we are helping to make research more inclusive—because better research starts with everyone.
